Interoception - the gold dust of our attention and intention

Interoception refers to the sensory receptors that are involved with the body’s ability to sense and understand internal sensations so we can respond to our physical and emotional needs.

our emotional body - fascia is emotional and reacts to your emotions

e.g. when we feel sad, scared, angry - we contract, (unless we are able to really feel these emotions safely and allow the emotion to move through our bodies)

our internal awareness - feeling full / needing to take a deep breath

our bodily signals - recognise physical states of our health and emotional well being - anxious / tired / hungry / excited

our inward, internal environment - on a superficial and visceral level

gives ‘light’ to how we feel on the inside

our emotional connection - what it feels like to feel feelings / what does it feel like to be you

how you see yourself - self recognition

your physiological integrity, am i full? or am i hungry? am i cold?

it is the gold dust of our attention and intention

It is essential to add interoception into he traditional five sensory human experience of the exteroceptors.

Exteroceptors - detect stimuli from the external world and inform the central nervous system about the outside world. These specialised sensory nerves help us interact and adapt to our environment. Exteroception includes the five tradition senses, such as sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste as well as outside temperature and the perception of pain.

*** if we didn’t have interoceptors then we wouldn’t be able to have a sense of who we are so we wouldn’t be able to nuture ourselves, we would have significant challenges in our awareness, our self regulation and well being
